Mike Oldfield - Portsmouth b/w Argiers (1976) - single

"Portsmouth" is a single released by musician Mike Oldfield in 1976.
In an attempt to repeat the success of his previous year's Christmas hit, "In Dulci Jubilo", Mike recorded another traditional folk melody dating from 1701 (first known publication), again using Leslie Penning on recorders. The single was just as successful as its predecessor, charting at number 3 in the UK, and became his first non-album single to be issued in the USA. Mike Oldfield plays acoustic guitar, accordion, mandolin, ARP string synthesiser, tambourine, kettle drum and bodhran (Irish drum), and both Oldfield and Penning are credited with "feet".
"Argiers" is another traditional folk song, performed by Leslie Penning on recorders and Mike Oldfield on acoustic guitar and ARP string synthesiser. An unusual feature of this arrangement is that it is in a minor key, having been converted from its original major key via diatonic transposition. "Portsmouth" and "Argiers" were both recorded in January 1976 at Througham, Gloucestershire, Mike's new home studio, shortly after he moved from his previous home in Hergest Ridge, which was the location of his previous home studio, the Beacon.

Tommy Tutone - 867-5309/Jenny b/w Not Say Goodbye (1981) - single

"867-5309/Jenny" is a song written by Alex Call and Jim Keller and performed by Tommy Tutone that was released on the album “Tommy Tutone 2”, It peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1982.
The song caused a fad of people dialing 867-5309 and asking for "Jenny".
"There was no Jenny," songwriter Alex Call told, "The number? It came to me out of the ether." Lead guitarist Jim Keller, interviewed by People in 1982, tells a different story. "Jenny is a regular girl, not a hooker. Friends of mine wrote her name and number on a men's room wall at a bar. I called her on a dare, and we dated for a while. I haven't talked with her since the song became a hit, but I hear she thinks I'm a real jerk for writing it."

Indeep - When Boys Talk b/w When Boys Talk (Instrumental) (1983) - single

Indeep was a 1980s New York-based group that was best known for its song "Last Night a D.J. Saved My Life".
The group was led by its songwriter-musician Michael Cleveland, and it was known for employing a strong disco-esque bass line and early hip hop lyrics backed by two female singers: Réjane Magloire and Rose Marie Ramsey. The follow-up single, "When Boys Talk," did not do nearly as well on either side of the Atlantic, which, combined with its limited later success, put the group into the one-hit wonders category. Vocalist Magloire later enjoyed some success with the Belgian techno-house outfit Technotronic.

Earlene Bentley - Caught In The Act (Vocal) b/w Caught In The Act (Instrumental) (1984) - single

I can trace Bentley back to acting as early as 1975 when she appeared in an episode of the U.K. TV series "Gangsters" where she portrayed a singer.
Earlene burst on the disco scene in 1983, long after the 'original' disco-era. Producer Ian Levine, who has always brought the best in divas to the dance floor, gave Bentley her first
worldwide hit with "The Boys Come To Town." The song was tailor-made for the gay high-energy dance crowd. Originally released on the U.K. label Record Shack, it was quickly
picked up for American distribution by the quintessential gay dance label Megatone.  It topped the club charts and established her as a major disco artist of the 1980's. What followed next was two more releases on Record Shack in 1984. "I'm Living My Own Life" and "Caught In The Act" were both superlative examples of the high-energy sounds
emerging from England at the time.
