´Say Goodbye To Hollywood´ is a song by Billy Joel which originally appeared as the opening song of his seminal fourth album “Turnstiles” (1976). The better known live version of the song was released as a single from the 1981 live album “Songs In The Attic”. It was written after Joel moved back to New York City in 1975. He had gone to Hollywood to see if that would expand his career only to discover that he was just as popular no matter where he was based. In a sense this song is a homecoming anthem, as well as a tongue in cheek commentary about the decadence and transitory nature of Hollywood, and the excitement of coming home.
