Although the break up of the duo at the beginning of the decade appeared terminal, Garfunkel was obviously never far from Paul Simon’s thoughts.
“My Little Town” was the song Artie always wanted to write and Simon imaginatively represents his soulmate’s troubled early years living in a dull environment.
Handicapped by the frustrations of non-artistic expectations from peers and community, the song perfectly represents the sense of anxiety for the mundanity of a normal life amongst the respectable middle classes.
