Orchestral Manouvres In The Dark - Messages b/w Taking Sides Again (1980) - single

"Messages" is the third single of the synthpop group Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD), released in 1980. The song originally featured on their eponymous debut album, but a re-recorded version provided OMD with their first Top 40 hit single in the UK, reaching number 13. As with debut single "Electricity", the band embraced the concept of machines singing the song's chorus.
Most copies of the original 10" pressing with the album version were scrapped on behalf of the Band (because they wanted to re-record the song), but a handful did escape destruction. Some of these were given away as part of a competition for the OMD fan club in 1980. These pressings can only distinguished by the shorter track time and different runout information.

Deardorff And Joseph - Chicago Blue b/w One More Story To Tell (1976) - single

Californian commercial sound of the mid-'70s and featured musical support by such luminaries as Dan Seals, Jeff Porcaro and his brothers Mike and Joe, Dean Parks, Jim Horn, and David Paich. “Chicago Blue” was a song taken from their only and selftitled album from 1976.

Jan Akkerman - No Doubt About It b/w Blue In The Shadow (1981) - single

Telephone - Dinge Dong Marie b/w Woman (1976) - single

Opgericht: 1970, Amsterdam, Noord Holland, Netherlands

Starbreaker - The Sound Of Summer b/w Arizona Lost And Gone (1977) - single

This single is a very rare production by John Carter, who was responsible for many of the great sunshine pop hits of the 1960's and 1970's... (Incidentally, Carter and Shakespeare are the same person... Shakespeare is Carter's original last name.)
Carter released records under many names: Stamford Bridge,  Kincade ("Dreams Are Ten A Penny"), Scarecrow and Stormy Petrel. He also released a single as The Ohio Express, an American bubblegum group renowned for not playing or singing on most of their records. The hit came with "Beach Baby" by First Class in 1974. After two First Class albums, Carter started concentrating on writing advertising jingles. Among his work are commercials for Vauxhall Motors, British Caledonian and Rowntree's. His last shot at a hit single was in 1977 as Starbreaker with "Sound of Summer", which itself began life as music in a commercial for Butlin's.

Marvin Gaye - Got To Give It Up (Part 1) b/w Got To Give It Up (Part 2) (1977) - single

The first recording session for "Got to Give It Up", originally titled "Dancing Lady", was on December 13, 1976. Influenced by the Johnnie Taylor hit, "Disco Lady", Gaye was inspired to create his answer song to Taylor's hit. To help set up a "disco" atmosphere, Gaye hired Motown producer and engineer Art Stewart to oversee the song's production. Gaye and Stewart brought in several musicians and Gaye's friends, his brother Frankie and girlfriend Janis Hunter, to Gaye's recording studio complex, Marvin's Room. From December 14–17, 1976, Gaye performed the lead vocal track, instrumentation (which included Gaye, Fernando Harkness, Johnny McGhee, Frankie Beverly and Bugsy Wilcox and Funk Brother member Jack Ashford) and background vocals. In the song, Gaye added background vocals from his brother and his girlfriend. During the second half of the song, the song introduces vocal layered doo-wop styled scatting from Gaye and produced a funk-influenced vamp. Fernando Harkness performs a tenor saxophone solo in the second half of the song.
Gaye recorded his vocals on the first date of sessions, adding instrumentation on the following day, and then adding other effects in the latter two days, mixing it by January 1977. Influenced by the vocal chatter on his previous hit, "What's Going On", Gaye decided to create a party scene outside the recording studio where different voices are heard either greeting each other or partying. Gaye is also heard on the track greeting people and laughing while mingling in with the crowd. During the bridge, Gaye is heard yelling, "Say Don! Hey man, I didn't know you was in here!" The "Don" was later confirmed as Soul Train host Don Cornelius, who was one of Gaye's close friends. Gaye overlapped the party sounds over and over, making a loop. In the second half of the song, Gaye sings mainly the initial title, "dancing lady" over and over while a saxophone is playing a solo. All the background vocals on the second part of the song were from Gaye himself. Gaye also plays percussion, RMI synthesizer bass and keyboards on the song. In the second half, he can be heard playing on a glass bottle halfway filled with grapefruit juice. L.T.D. guitarist Johnny McGhee added guitar. McGhee and Frankie Beverly were the only non-band mates featured on the song playing instruments. Beverly also added assorted percussion.
