Ace - How Long / Sniffin´ About (1974) - single

Ace were a British rock band, who enjoyed moderate success in the 1970s. Their membership included Paul Carrack, who later became famous as the lead vocalist of Mike + The Mechanics and as a solo artist. Ace are best known for their hit single "How Long?", which was a UK top-20 single in 1974 and reached No 3 in the US in 1975.
The band was formed in December 1972 in Sheffield as 'Ace Flash and the Dynamos', but this name was quickly abbreviated to just Ace.[ The members were assembled from various other professional bands. Carrack and Comer had previously played with Warm Dust, and King with Mighty Baby, whose antecedents were the 1960s band The Action. Ace were popular on the pub rock circuit. Their music was pop with a funk influence. "How Long" is a 1974 song from their album “Five-A-Side”.
Although widely interpreted as being about adultery, the song was in fact composed by lead singer Paul Carrack upon discovering that bassist Terry Comer had been secretly working with other bands. Comer returned to Ace in time to play on the song.

Hamilton Bohannon - Foot Stompin´ Music / Dance With Your Parno (1975) - single

Hamilton Frederick Bohannon (born March 7, 1942), often credited and known professionally simply as Bohannon, is an American percussionist, band leader, songwriter and record producer, who was one of the leading figures in 1970s disco music.
He was born in Newnan, Georgia, and learned the drums at school. He began playing in local bands, one of which featured guitarist Jimi Hendrix, before graduating from Clark College, Atlanta with a degree in music and secondary education. After a brief period as a schoolteacher, he was recruited in 1964 as drummer in 13-year-old Stevie Wonder's touring band. He moved to Detroit in 1967, where he was employed by Motown as the leader and arranger of Bohannon & The Motown Sound, who provided backing for many of the label's top acts on tour, including Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Diana Ross and the Supremes, The Four Tops and others.
When Motown moved from Detroit to Los Angeles, Bohannon stayed behind to form his own ensemble, featuring members of local band, The Fabulous Counts and including such musicians as Ray Parker Jr. and Dennis Coffey. He signed in 1972 with the Dakar label run by producer Carl Davis, and released his debut album Stop & Go in early 1973. This was followed by five more albums for the label over the next two years, on which he "perfected his formula of heavy, thudding bass accents and aggressive rhythms". Although several of his tracks were club hits, he had limited chart success. His first hit single, in 1974, was "South African Man", which reached no.78 on the Billboard R&B chart but had more success in the UK, where it reached no.22 on the pop chart. This was followed up in 1975 by "Foot Stompin Music" - his only record to reach the US Hot 100.

Jay Ferguson - Thunder Island / Love Is Gold (1977) - single

Jay Ferguson (born John Arden Ferguson; May 10, 1947) is an American rock/pop musician, known for his work with Spirit and Jo Jo Gunne, and his 1978 solo hit "Thunder Island".
"Thunder Island" is the lead single off of the album “Thunder Island”. The song reached #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1978.
Despite the song's fairly high position on the music charts, the song receives little rotation on most modern classic rock radio stations, although it is Ferguson's most well-known song. It features American musician Joe Walsh on guitar. As this was Ferguson's only major hit as a solo artist, he is often tagged a one-hit wonder. His later career has been as a composer of music for television programs and films.

Roger - I Heard It Through The Grapevine (Part 1) / I Heard It Through The Grapevine (Part 2) (1981) - single

Roger Troutman (November 29, 1951 – April 25, 1999) was an American composer, songwriter, producer and the founder of the band Zapp who helped spearhead the funk movement and heavily influenced west coast hip hop due to the scene's heavy sampling of his music over the years. Troutman was well known for his use of the vocoder or the talk box, a device that is connected to an instrument (frequently a keyboard) to create different vocal effects. Roger used a custom-made talkbox the Electro Harmonix "Golden Throat," as well as a Yamaha DX100 FM synthesizer. As both band leader of Zapp and in his subsequent solo releases, he scored a bevy of funk and R&B hits throughout the 1980s.
In 1981, upon the fast-paced success of Zapp's first album, Troutman cut his first solo album, “The Many Facets of Roger”. Featuring his frenetic funk cover of Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through the Grapevine", the song exploded to number one on the R&B singles chart helping the album sell over a million copies.

They were at their most popular during the early 1980s, during a period when other ska revival bands such as Madness, The Specials and The Selecter filled the charts. Bad Manners spent 111 weeks in the UK Singles Chart between 1980 and 1983, and they also achieved chart success with their first four studio albums with “Gosh It's... The Knack - Good Girls Don´t / Frustrated (1979) - single

"Good Girls Don't" is a 1979 hit single written by Doug Fieger and released by the rock band The Knack, off their album “Get the Knack”. It was the follow-up to the group's number-one hit single, "My Sharona". "Good Girls Don't" was a No. 1 single in Canada. The song has since been covered by a number of artists, including The Chipmunks, Ben Folds, The Chubbies and The McRackins.
Fieger originally wrote "Good Girls Don't" in 1972, and claimed that he wrote the song with Johnny Cash's voice in mind. He had included it on three or four demos in various attempts to get a recording contract, including with The Knack. It was also one of the first songs The Knack recorded. They had made a demo which included "Good Girls Don't" and "That's What Little Girls Do" in 1978, despite which the band was turned down multiple times in their efforts to get their first record contract. By the time The Knack was recording “Get the Knack”, he was tired of the song and reluctant to record it, but was convinced by producer Mike Chapman to attempt one take. That one take was used on the album.

Huey Lewis & The News - I Want A New Drug / Finally Found A Home (1983) - single

"I Want a New Drug" is a song by American rock band Huey Lewis and the News from their third album Sports. It was released as the second single from the album, following the top-ten hit "Heart and Soul" in January 1984. The single reached number six on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Dance Club Play chart.
When the theme song of the 1984 film Ghostbusters was released, Huey Lewis sued Ray Parker Jr. for plagiarism, claiming that Parker had stolen the melody from "I Want a New Drug". Lewis had been approached to compose the main theme song for the film, but had to decline because of his work on the soundtrack for “Back to the Future”.

Amanda Lear - Enigma (Give A Bit Of Mmh To Me) / Run Baby Run (1978) - single

"Enigma (Give a Bit of Mmh to Me)" - a song by French singer Amanda Lear released in 1978.
"Enigma" was released as the third single from Lear's second album, “Sweet Revenge”. Depending on territory, "Run Baby Run", "Hollywood Flashback" or "Gold" made the single B-side, all from “Sweet Revenge”. Different edit versions of the song appeared on respective releases. Unlike other three singles off the album, "Enigma" did not belong to the concept suite on side A. The track was composed by Rainer Pietsch and produced by Anthony Monn. Amanda Lear provided self-penned lyrics.
"Enigma" met with considerable success, charting at around Top 10 in the Netherlands and Italy, and remains one of Lear's most memorable tracks of the disco era. The singer intensively performed the song on TV as well as in her erotic 1978 movie Follie di notte, where it made the final. In 1998 Amanda re-recorded "Enigma" for her Back in Your Arms album.
