David Bowie - Be My Wife b/w Speed Of Life (1977) - single

"Be My Wife" is a song and single by David Bowie. It toned down the electronic feel of the rest of the album. It also featured a more conventional set of lyrics, being closer to a traditional rock song than the more fragmented lyrics elsewhere on the album. Several analysts of Bowie's career have seen the song as a last-ditch plea to Angela Bowie in the vain hope of saving his marriage. Tension had arisen between the couple, and disagreements had risen over the location of a new residence in Europe. Angela had shown herself to be heavily affected by his music; he had proposed to her by playing "The Prettiest Star" to her over the telephone. In the end David would not agree to move back to Switzerland from Berlin, and the relationship finally ended in divorce in 1980. The song features a ragtime piano opening, which serves the somewhat retro lyrics some justice, although it is soon set against a backdrop of guitars and drums. The song repeats its lyrics, changing the spacing of the lyrics amongst the song's verse. The song closes simply with a fadeout, as the song returns to the introductory ragtime riff repeating indefinitely, with the rest of the band playing behind it. "Be My Wife" was the second single from the album “Low” after "Sound and Vision".

"Jesse" is a song written and performed by Carly Simon and produced by Mike Mainieri. The song was the lead single from Simon's ninth studio album, “Come Upstairs”.The song is told in first-person about the narrator's disdain for her former lover, who has just moved back to town. She vows to have nothing to do with him, "Don't let him near me, don't let him touch me, don't let him please me," she sings. She asks her friends to remind her of how he has wronged her, because she fears she'll fall back under his spell. She ends up letting her guard down and the two rekindle their romance, and she seeks to comfort her friends because they don't approve. "My friends, let's comfort them, they're feeling bad, they think I've sunk so low," she sings. Simon's then-husband, James Taylor, and their daughter, Sally Taylor, sing backup vocals. The single has a country-pop flair, unlike the rest of the album, which is more rock-oriented.

Natalie Cole - Sophisticated Lady b/w Good Morning Heartache (1976) - single

"Sophisticated Lady (She's a Different Lady)" is a song recorded by R&B artist Natalie Cole issued as lead single from her second album “Natalie”. Producer Chuck Jackson's mother used to play such Duke Ellington classics as "Take the A Train" and "Sophisticated Lady" when he was a child. Years later while Jackson was watching Natalie Cole perform he thought how much of a "sophisticated lady" the singer was as she skillfully handled the audience. Jackson suggested the term as a title to his songwriting/producer partner Marvin Yancy, who at first objected because it shared the title of the Ellington standard. Jackson explained that their song would be totally different from Ellington's. The jazzy, lite funk cut was recorded in Chicago at Curtis Mayfield's Curtom Studios with guitarists Phil Upchurch and Cash McCall, bassist Joseph Scott, drummer Quinton Joseph, keyboardist Tennyson Stephens, conga player Henry Gibson, Yancy on piano, and Jackson on percussion. Written by Chuck Jackson, Marvin Yancy, and Natalie Cole and co-produced by arrangers Gene Barge and Richard Evans, "Sophisticated Lady (She's a Different Lady)" topped the R&B charts while peaking at number 25 pop in summer 1976. It was included on the singer's second gold album, Natalie, which also included "Mr. Melody."

Guest players included drummer Yogi Horton, bassist Tinker Barfield, and the Brecker Brothers on horns. “Mystery Walk” album gave M + M/Martha and the Muffins their biggest hit in years with "Black Stations/White Stations". The Clash - The Magnificent Dance (Special Remix) b/w The Magnificent Dance (1981) - single

"The Magnificent Seven" is a song and single by the English punk rock band The Clash. It was the third single from their fourth album “Sandinista!”. The song was inspired by raps by old school hip hop acts from New York City, like the Sugarhill Gang and Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five. Rap was still a new and emerging music genre at the time and the band, especially Mick Jones, was very impressed with it, so much so that Jones took to carrying a boombox around and got the nickname "Whack Attack". The song was recorded in April 1980 at Electric Lady Studios in New York City, built around a bass loop played by Norman Watt-Roy of the Blockheads. Joe Strummer wrote the words on the spot, a technique that was also used to create Sandinista!'s other rap track, "Lightning Strikes (Not Once But Twice)". "The Magnificent Seven" represents the first attempt by a rock band to write and perform original rap music, and one of the earliest examples of hip hop records with political and social content. It is the first major white rap record.

Peter Tosh - Buk-In-Hamm Palace b/w The Day The Dollar Die (1979) - single

Peter Tosh, OM (born Winston Hubert McIntosh; 19 October 1944 - 11 September 1987) was a Jamaican reggae musician. Along with Bob Marley and Bunny Wailer he was one of the core members of the band The Wailers (1963–1974). After which he established himself as a successful solo artist and a promoter of Rastafari. He was murdered in 1987 during a home invasion. The song and the album “Mystic Man” is about contrasts against Western consumerist decadence (among other things, swearing off frankfurters, hamburgers, and any notions of drinking "pink, yellow, blue, green soda"). "Buk-in-hamm Palace” is the biggest departure, building its outlaw theme of smoking marijuana in the Queen of England's home over a bubbling disco rhythm.
